Vegetarian

As time moves on there is an increasing belief amongst people that becoming a vegetarian may make a difference. Although in the scheme of things you may wonder just what effect one person can make. However, if enough individuals do stop, it becomes statistically more important to the health of animals on this planet. One argument for making this change are the benefits it has on your health and the problems that an excess of meat causes, like heart disease; this is the most common reason for death in America and other big meat eating nations.

Meat, dairy produce and eggs are the main sources of cholesterol which are the contributing factors in coronary heart disease and other circulation problems. The organization Earth Save says that a meat eating individual is four times more likely to have a heart attack as a vegetarian. As for people who are pure vegans, it gets even lower: they have less than 1/10 the chance of having a heart. The heart is only one organ that benefits from a vegetarian diet because there are other health advantages.

Meat contains a number of preservatives which have links with cancer, something which is dramatically reduced when you do not eat meat. Vegetarians will also benefit from knowing they will not be consuming many of the hormones cattle ingest as part of their feed; which can cause hormonal problems in people. It is also much easier to avoid the consumption of lactose which many people have intolerance to, causing digestive conditions. Ok so there are obvious health benefits to becoming a vegetarian but it will also mean that many animals will not be harmed either.

One particular study illustrates this point by claiming that the average American is responsible for the death (for food) of over two thousand seven hundred animals during their life. In the course of just a few short years you could stop the death of hundreds of animals by changing your life this way. To help even further and stop the number of battery hens and dairy cows from having to suffer degrading conditions you could stop drinking milk and eating eggs. Well after reading this it is obvious the easy answer is yes it is better to become a vegetarian. This commitment matters to each individual for their health, the health of the planet and those of the animals which will not need to be slaughtered to provide food.

Alzheimer

This disease has become the most discussed of all types of dementia. If you Watched a person with Alzheimer’s, you will see a gradual decay in their ability to remember especially with 10 percent of the population over 65 year’s old suffering from the disorder.

Alois Alzheimer a German physician first discovered the disease back in 1906 but it has only really been in the world’s focus for just over 30 years. Studies show that your greatest risk of acquiring Alzheimer’s is advancing age. The problem of early diagnosis is often down to the sufferer, who refuses to admit that anything is wrong even when they start to experience some of the symptoms.

Alzheimer’s disease is currently treated exactly the same as other forms of dementia. Unfortunately, because there is still so much that is unknown about the disease, there is no definite way to treat it although some symptoms can be improved or slowed down with drugs. They have been shown to help the average Alzheimer’s disease sufferer cognitive abilities by up to six months.

A new drug, Memantine is helping to slow down the deterioration process during the later stages and is a derivative of the well known anti-influenza drug Amantadine. Fortunately, Memantine has few side effects as 80 percent of the drug is passed in urine unchanged and so far it is the only drug that has proved to be of real benefit to patients with moderate to severe symptoms.

This disease is now the fourth largest cause of death in America. Although contracting the disease is a tragedy, the cost of treatment and care for sufferers is causing economic vibrations. Last year the National Institute on Aging spent half of its annual budget on research into age related disease, they are now testing over three hundred compounds at any one time.

To help you reduce the chance of contracting dementia, it’s important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, choose carefully what you eat and drink and take more exercise. Although not full proven yet, researchers studying Alzheimer’s patients have noticed that those who stay healthy and cheerful have slowed down the rate of decline. This disease is still almost exclusively and aging condition and incidences of younger victims are rare.
